Corvette ZR1 Laps the Ring in 7:26.4, Beats the 2009 Nissan

GM’s 640Hp and $103,000 Corvette ZR1 has posted one of the fastest times ever recorded on the Nurburgring race track for a totally stock production car: 7 minutes and 26.4 seconds. And yes, the ZR1 has shaved almost three seconds off the 2009 Nissan GT-R’s official time of 7:29.03.



According to Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge J. Juechter, the ZR1 tested was bone stock with the exception of the communications and safety equipment. The tires were production Michelin Pilot Sport 2 which have been developed specifically for the ZR1 while chassis alignment and vehicle height were set to factory specs.

Likewise, Juechter said that the engine calibrations were absolutely stock, emissions compliant and the car ran on pump (not racing) fuel. In other words, it was the same vehicle as the ones that will roll off the production line in Bowling Green, Kentucky and sold around later this summer.

Maar laat ze allebei maar over een natte Ring rijden. Kijken of de Vette nog sneller is.

Geloof het of niet; de 'Vette heeft nog steeds één centrale nokkenas in de V8. Wél een supercharger in deze uitvoering.

Tja Porsche was not amsued blijkbaar en die hebben zelf een GTR getest. :-)


"AMSTERDAM - Het zat Porsche toch niet lekker dat Nissan met de GT-R zo hard (7 minuut 29) over de befaamde Nordschleife reed. Het oude, bijna 21 km lange circuit wordt door Porsche gezien als eigen territorium, waar alle nieuwe modellen op het scherpst van de snede worden uitgeprobeerd. De Nissan GT-R was liefst 5 tellen sneller op de baan dan Porsche’s paradepaardje, de Carrera GT! Porsche heeft onderzoek gedaan. Nissan liegt!


De Duitse sportwagenbouwer heeft een GT-R over laten komen uit de Verenigde Staten, waar de auto al te koop is en met de Japanse supersportwagen het traject afgelegd. Wat blijkt, zo meldt een Australische website. De testrijders kwamen niet binnen 25 seconden van de geclaimde tijd. Bovendien waren zowel de 911 Turbo als de GT2 rapper dan de Japanner, die direct na de Japanner werden uitgeprobeerd. Het Porsche-team kwam tot 7 minuut 54 seconden in de GT-R. De 911 Turbo deed 7:38 en de GT2 7:34.

"De geteste ‘wonderauto’ met 7:29 kan geen normale productieauto zijn geweest," zo stelt August Achleitner, de 911-productbaas in gesprek met CARSguide. "Voor ons is het niet duidelijk hoe Nissan die tijd heeft kunnen realiseren. Wat we kunnen voorstellen is dat Nissan andere banden heeft gebruikt." Een semi-raceband wordt genoemd.

De snelle tijd van Nissan roept bij verschillende fabrikanten vraagtekens op. Een andere autobouwer, die graag anoniem wenst te blijven, zegt tegen AutoTelegraaf ook met verbazing naar de circuitbeelden te hebben gekeken. “De GT-R komt absurd snel van zijn plek. Daar begon bij ons het wantrouwen.

PORSCHE has accused Nissan of cheating in the GT-R's record bid at the Nurburgring racetrack. Porsche has just run its own back-to-back tests with the Japanese company's GT-R supercar and says it could not get within 25 seconds of Nissan's claimed record time of seven minutes 29 seconds in April. It also found its 911 Turbo and GT2 were both quicker than the GT-R. "This wonder car with 7:29 could not have been a regular series production car," says August Achleitner, the 911 product chief for Porsche, speaking at a recent Australian press preview of the latest 911 Cabrio. "For us, it's not clear how this time is possible. What we can imagine with this Nissan is they used other tyres." He believes the time achieved by Nissan with ex-Formula One driver Toshio Suzuki would only be possible with a semi-slick race-style tyre. Achleitner says Porsche took a standard GT-R, running on regular road tyres, and ran it around the Nurburgring within two hours of its own cars, on the same day with exactly the same weather conditions. He says there was no tweaking of any kind and the GT2 and Turbo both ran on regular Porsche road tyres, the Michelin Sport Cup. "We bought the car in the US. We drove a GT-R with new tyres," he says. Achleitner was initially protective of the exact lap times, which were run during a program when Porsche also compared its upcoming four-door Panamera with a range of potential rivals. But he eventually revealed his team clocked the GT-R at 7 minutes 54 seconds, with the 911 Turbo managing 7:38 and the GT2 getting down to 7:34. Achleitner says the back-to-back comparison was run because Porsche was concerned by Nissan's claims for the GT-R, which is heavier than the 911 with similar power. "The Nissan is a good car. I don't want to make anything bad with my words," he says. "It's a very consistent car. But this car is about 20 kilos heavier than the Turbo . . ." In the end, Porsche believes its testing has achieved the right lap times for the Skyline GT-R and benchmarked it against its own 911 heroes in the right context. "For us it has been clearly the result. This technical puzzle now fits together. With the other numbers we had problems to understand it," he says.
